JOHN L. CASTI
Il Professor John L. Casti ha conseguito il dottorato in matematica
con Richard Bellman presso la University of Southern
California. Ha lavorato presso la RAND Corporation di Santa
Monica in California e prestato servizio presso l'University
of Arizona, la New York University e Princeton prima di
diventare uno dei principali membri dello staff di ricerca
dell' Istituto Internazionale per l'Analisi dei Sistemi
Applicati (IIASA) di Vienna in Austria.
Nel 1986 ha cominciato a lavorare presso la Technische
Universität di Vienna come
docente
di
Ricerca Operativa
e
di Teoria dei Sistemi.
Ha pubblicato otto monografie tecniche nel
campo della teoria dei sistemi e dei modelli matematici e
undici volumi di divulgazione scientifica tra cui:
Paradigms Lost, Complexification, Would-Be Worlds e
The Cambridge Quintet.
Il suo ultimo libro Mood Matters: From Rising Skirt
Lengths to the Collapse of World Powers è stato
pubblicato nel Giugno del 2010.
nel 2000 Casti ha fondato due società, la Qforma, Inc
con sede a Santa Fe e la SimWorld, Ltd, con sede a Londra,
dedicate alla risoluzione di problemi nel settore degli
affari e della finanza attraverso l'impiego di strumenti e
concetti della moderna teoria dei sistemi. Nel 2005 Casti è tornato a Vienna per
partecipare alla fondazione di The Circle Kenos, una società
nata con l'obiettivo di utilizzare la complessità delle
conoscenze scientifiche per ottenere uno sguardo più
articolato e approfondito sul Futuro di quello offerto dai
convenzionali strumenti della Statistica. Casti è anche
Senior Research Scholar presso l'Istituto Internazionale per

analizza questioni relative ad eventi estremi che
coinvolgono la società: l'umore sociale e il suo impatto sui

JOHN L. CASTI
Dr. Casti received his Ph.D. in mathematics under Richard Bellman at
the University of Southern California. He worked at the RAND
Corporation in Santa Monica, CA, and served on the faculties of the
University of Arizona, NYU and Princeton before becoming one of the
first members of the research staff at the International Institute
for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Vienna, Austria. In 1986, he
took up a position as a Professor of Operations Research and System
Theory at the Technical University of Vienna.
He has published eight technical monographs in the area of system
theory and mathematical modeling, as well as 11 volumes of popular
science, including the books Paradigms Lost, Complexification,
Would-Be Worlds, and The Cambridge Quintet. His latest
book, Mood Matters: From Rising Skirt Lengths to the Collapse of
World Powers, was published in June 2010.
In 2000 Dr. Casti formed two companies in Santa Fe and London,
Qforma, Inc. and SimWorld, Ltd, devoted to the employment of tools
and concepts from modern system theory for the solution of problems
in business and finance. In early 2005 he returned to Vienna to
co-found The Kenos Circle, a professional society that aims to make
use of complexity science in order to gain a deeper insight into the
future than that offered by more conventional statistical tool. He
is also a Senior Research Scholar at the Interational Institute for
Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Vienna, working on questions of
extreme events in human society, social mood and its impact on
collective behavior, the vulnerability of critical infrastructures,
and computer modeling of these types of processes. |

BATTISTA GARDONCINI
Battista Gardoncini, Torino, 1954, da 33 anni lavora come
giornalista, prima come corrispondente dalla polizia e dai
tribunali, poi di notizie locali e di politica per la
televisione, oltre a condurre programmi radiofonici e di
informazione per la TV. Dal 1997 è il curatore del programma
quotidiano di informazione scientifica TGR
Leonardo, trasmesso su RAI 3. Dal 2006 cura anche il
programma settimanale TGR Montagne trasmesso su RAI 2. Ama
la vela, gli scacchi e le vecchie macchine fotografiche. |
BATTISTA GARDONCINI
Battista Gardoncini, Turin, 1954, has worked as journalist
for the past 33 years, first as police and court newspaper
reporter, then covering local news and
politics for TV, in addition to conducting radio and TV news
programs. Since 1997 he is editor of the daily science news
program TGR Leonardo, broadcast on RAI 3. Since 2006 he is
also the editor of the weekly
TGR Montagne program, broadcast on RAI 2. He loves
sailing, chess, and old cameras.

PATRICK GLOTIN
Patrick Glotin è autore e regista di documentari
per la televisione. Specializzato in documentari
naturalistici, collabora con diversi istituti scientifici
per canali televisivi francesi come France 3, Seasons,
Planète. Gli piace mettere in relazione la natura con
l'uomo. Ha diretto più di cinquanta film in diversi posti
del mondo; Francia, Europa, Tasmania, Patagonia, Madagascar
e Louisiana. Prima di dedicarsi al documentario, Patrick ha
lavorato per agenzie pubblicitarie internazionali.

PATRICK GLOTIN
Patrick Glotin is autor/director for Tv documentaries.
Specialized in nature, outdoor films, he works with many
scientifics instituts for french Tv Channel as France 3,
Seasons, Planète. He likes nature with people in it. He has
directed more than 50 films all around France, Europe,
Tasmania, Patagonia, Madagascar, Louisiana…in his ‘’new
life’’. Before, he was working for international advertising
agencies.

CHLOE KEMBERY
Chloe Kembery è senior communications officer presso la European Science Foundation.
Si è laureata in biochimica all'Università di Bristol, in
Gran Bretagna, e ha scoperto la sua passione per comunicare
la scienza dopo gli studi, mentre lavorava al museo
scientifico AT-Bristol.
Da allora ha lavorato presso prestigiose istituzioni inglesi
che si occupano di scienza fra cui l'Edinburgh Science
Festival e il Museo di Scienze Naturali di Londra. Chloe
ha anche lavorato nello staff di produzione di documentari
come Museum of Life della BBC. Nel 2010 ha lavorato
per la prima edizione dell' European Science TV and New
Media Festival e collabora dal 2009 per lo Strasbourg
International Film Festival. |
CHLOE KEMBERY
Chloe Kembery is senior communications officer for the
European Science Foundation. She graduated in biochemistry from the University
of Bristol in the UK, and she discovered a passion for
communicating science while working for At-Bristol Science
Museum after her studies. She has since worked for several
high profile UK institutions including the Edinburgh Science
Festival and the Natural
History Museum in London. Chloe also
worked with production teams for documentaries such as the
BBC’s Museum of Life. In 2010 she was involved with
organisation of the inaugural European Science TV and New
Media Festival and also worked at the Strasbourg
International Film Festival in 2009.

JANNA WELLANDER
Janna Wellander ha conseguito un master in pubblica
amministrazione incentrato sull'analisi e la valutazione
della politica presso l'Università di Göteborg in Svezia.
Janna a concluso la sua formazione con un progetto sulla
pari opportunità a Giacarta, in Indonesia, confluito in una
tesi di Master incentrata sulle donne in una posizione di
potere. Janna Wellander ha un ruolo centrale nella
maggior parte delle attività di Euroscience come European TV & New Media
Festival, the European Young Researchers’ Award e l'Euroscience Open Forum’s (ESOF) Career Programme.
Si occupa dell'organizzazione di diversi progetti FP7 e
lavora a stretto contatto con organizzazioni Europee di
ricerca su diverse questioni come le pari opportunità, la
mobilità dei ricercatori e l'integrità della ricerca. Janna Wellander ha
anche lavorato per l'European Science
Foundation e per l'European Association of Local and
Regional Authorities for Lifelong Learning (EARLALL). |
JANNA WELLANDER
Janna Wellander, MSc in Public Administration with focus on
policy analysis and evaluation (Gothenburg University,
Sweden).
Janna concluded her studies with a field study on a gender
equality project in Jakarta, Indonesia. It resulted in a
Master thesis focusing on women in leadership position.
Ms. Wellander has a central role in most of Euroscience’s
activities, for example, the European TV & New Media
Festival, the European Young Researchers’ Award and
Euroscience Open Forum’s (ESOF) Career Programme. She has
dealt with the management of different FP7 projects and
collaborates closely with European research organisations on
various issues, such as, gender issues, open access,
mobility of researchers and research integrity.
Ms. Wellander has previously worked for the European Science
Foundation and the European Association of Local and
Regional Authorities for Lifelong Learning (EARLALL).
